In Summary
One of the biggest myths I’m hearing right now is that AI means businesses need less content.
Â
- Less blogs.
- Less website copy.
- Less thought leadership.
- Less investment in content marketing.
I believe the exact opposite is true.
Â
In fact, I think AI is creating one of the strongest arguments for content marketing we’ve seen in years.
Â
Because while humans may be reading differently, AI is reading more than ever.
Â
In this article, I explain why content remains one of the most valuable business assets in an AI-driven world, why businesses should be creating more original content rather than less and what practical steps organisations should take to remain visible, relevant and trusted as search behaviour continues to evolve.
Let's talk about the biggest mistake businesses are about to make in the AI era
I’ve heard the same questions come up time and time again over the past year.
Â
- “Do we still need blogs?”
- “Do we still need content?”
- “Won’t AI just answer everything now?”
- “Why would people visit our website if ChatGPT can summarise it?”
I understand why people are asking them.
Â
But I honestly think they’re coming to the wrong conclusion.
Â
Here’s the thing: I believe businesses that stop investing in content because of AI will hand a significant advantage to their competitors.
Â
Because while everyone is debating whether content still matters, AI is quietly consuming more content than ever before.
Â
Think about that for a second.
Â
The entire AI ecosystem is built on information. And that information has to come from somewhere.
Â
Increasingly, it comes from:
Â
- your website
- your articles
- your case studies
- your FAQs
- your thought leadership.
So, if your response to AI is to create less content, you're effectively giving AI less information to understand your business.
Here's where I think people are getting confused
People keep looking at content through a human lens.
And that’s understandable.
Â
For years, we’ve measured content based on:
Â
- Page views
- Time on page
- Click-through rates
- Downloads
- Website traffic
Those metrics still matter.
Â
But they’re no longer telling the whole story.
Because content now serves two audiences: Humans and AI.
- The human might never read your entire 3,500-word article. But AI probably will.
- The human might skim your service page. AI won’t.
- The human might jump straight to the FAQ section. AI is analysing the whole thing.
That’s why businesses need to stop asking:
Â
“Will people read this?”
Â
And start asking:
Â
“Will this help AI understand who we are, what we do and why we’re different?”
Increasingly, AI is becoming the bridge between your content and your customers.
Humans may be consuming less, AI is consuming more
This is probably the most important shift businesses need to understand.
Â
For years, marketers have worried about attention spans.
Â
- People skim.
- People watch videos.
- People scroll.
- People consume short-form content.
And yes, all of that is true.
Â
But something fascinating has happened.
Â
While human attention has become shorter, AI attention has become almost unlimited!
Â
- AI doesn’t get distracted.
- AI doesn’t get bored.
- AI doesn’t skip ahead.
- AI doesn’t decide your article is too long.
- AI consumes everything.
Then it creates summaries, comparisons and recommendations based on what it finds.
Â
That’s why I believe long-form content, detailed website pages and original thought leadership remain incredibly valuable.
Not because every person will read every word. But because AI will.
And AI needs depth.
Â
- It needs context.
- It needs nuance.
- It needs expertise.
And remember, businesses providing that depth through useful, specific and genuinely helpful content will have a significant advantage over those relying on thin, generic content.
Why content originality is becoming more important than volume in the AI era
Now, before everyone runs off and starts publishing 50 blogs a month, let’s talk about something important.
Â
This isn’t a volume game.
Â
At least not entirely.
Â
Because AI is already drowning in content.
Â
- What it’s looking for is value.
- What it’s looking for is originality.
- What it’s looking for is information that genuinely helps answer questions.
And that’s where many businesses will struggle.
Because AI has made it incredibly easy to create content. But it hasn't made it easy to create insight.
There’s a big difference.
Â
Anyone can ask AI to write a blog about leadership. But not everyone can share a unique observation about leadership they’ve learned from twenty years in business.
Â
Anyone can generate a generic article about marketing strategy. But not everyone can explain what they’re seeing in the market right now.
That's why originality, genuine expertise and unique perspectives will become some of the most valuable assets a business can have in AI search.
Thought leadership content is no longer optional
I’ve believed in thought leadership for years.
Â
AI has only strengthened that belief.
Why?
Because AI is brilliant at organising existing information. But it still relies on humans to create new perspectives.
Think about your industry.
Â
- What are you seeing that others aren’t?
- What trends are emerging?
- What mistakes are customers making?
- What assumptions need challenging?
- What conversations should be happening?
Those observations matter.
Â
Not just because customers find them valuable, but because AI finds them valuable too.
Â
The businesses that publish original ideas are effectively creating source material that doesn’t exist elsewhere.
Â
And that’s a powerful position to be in.
FAQs might become one of the most important content assets on your website
This is something I’ve been recommending to clients more and more.
Â
Every important page should include FAQs.
Â
Not because they’re good for SEO. But because FAQs mirror how people interact with AI.
Â
Think about how people use ChatGPT:
Â
- They ask a question.
- Then another.
- Then a follow-up.
- Then they compare options.
- Then they challenge the answer.
FAQs allow your website to mirror that same behaviour.
Â
They help customers find answers faster.
They give search engines more context.
Â
And they help AI better understand your expertise, services and the questions you solve every day.
If I were looking for one practical improvement businesses could make today, adding meaningful FAQs across their key pages would be right at the top of my list.
Case studies content is about to become incredibly valuable
Let’s be honest.
Â
Every business claims to be good, experienced and results-focused.
Â
The challenge is proving it.
Â
And that’s why I believe case studies are increasingly more important.
Â
- Because AI loves evidence.
- Customers love evidence.
- Prospects love evidence.
Case studies provide:
Â
- Context
- Proof
- Results
- Real-world application
They move your content from:
Â
“Here’s what we say.”
Â
To:
Â
“Here’s what we’ve done.”
Â
And that’s a much stronger position to occupy!
Founder content is becoming a secret weapon in business marketing
Here’s something else I’ve been noticing.
Â
As AI-generated content becomes more common, founder-led content becomes even more valuable.
Â
The reason? It introduces:
Â
- Personality.
- Perspective.
- Experience.
- Humanity.
It gives people something that generic AI content simply can’t replicate.
Â
Now, this doesn’t mean every founder needs to become a full-time influencer.
Â
Far from it!
Â
But it does mean businesses should think more intentionally about how they share their expertise and point of view.
Â
Customers increasingly want to know:
Â
- Who are the people behind this business?
- What do they believe?
- What have they learned?
- What do they think?
Those answers help people connect with your business on a much deeper level. They build trust and create differentiation.
And in a world where more content is being generated by AI, human perspective is one of the most valuable assets a business can have.
What I’m recommending businesses do right now with their marketing in today’s AI era
The good news is you don’t need to reinvent your marketing strategy. But you do need to evolve it!
Â
Here’s what I’d be focusing on:
Â
- Refresh your key website pages
Most businesses already have useful content. It’s just often outdated, thin or poorly structured.
Â
Start with your most important website pages and make them clearer, stronger and more useful for customers, search engines and AI.
Â
- Add strong summaries
Help people and AI quickly understand what each page is about. A clear summary gives context upfront and makes your content easier to interpret.
Â
- Expand your FAQs
Answer the questions your customers are already asking.
Â
Good FAQs support SEO, AEO and GEO because they mirror how people search, how they interact with AI and how generative search engines identify useful, answer-focused content.
Â
- Create more thought leadership
Share observations, opinions and expertise. This is where your business can show original thinking rather than simply repeat what everyone else is saying.
Â
- Publish more case studies
Show proof, not just promises. Case studies give customers confidence and provide AI with evidence of your expertise in action.
Â
- Increase founder content
Let customers see the people behind the business. In an AI-driven world, human perspective, personality and lived experience are becoming powerful trust signals.
Â
- Improve your positioning
Make it easier for AI and humans to understand what makes you different. Clear positioning helps your content become more useful, more distinctive and easier to recommend.
Â
None of these are revolutionary.
Â
They’re simply more important than they’ve ever been before.
Here's what I believe we'll see next in the future of business marketing
Over the next few years, we’re going to hear a lot of businesses talking about AI-generated content.
Â
I think the more interesting conversation will be about AI-discoverable content.
Â
Because they’re not the same thing.
Â
- One is about producing content.
- The other is about producing content that’s genuinely worth finding.
And that’s where the real opportunity lies.
Â
I don’t think AI kills content marketing or reduces the value of expertise. If anything, it amplifies both.
Â
The same applies to websites. Rich, informative and genuinely helpful content isn’t becoming less valuable. It’s becoming one of the strongest assets a business can have.
Â
The businesses that thrive won’t be the ones creating more content for the sake of it.
They’ll be the ones creating better content.
Â
- More useful.
- More original.
- More insightful.
- More discoverable.
Because at the end of the day, AI still needs something worth talking about. And your content is what gives it that opportunity.
